Peace Pipe

B.T. Express

Bukka White

Aberdeen Mississippi Blues.  Spectacular!

Ballrooms of Mars

You gonna look fine
Be primed for dancing
You're gonna trip and glide
All on the trembling plane
Your diamond hands
Will be stacked with roses
And wind and cars
And people of the past

Robert Lee Burnside

R.L. Burnside from The Land Where the Blues Began (1978).

I first heard Burnside, along with Joe Callicott and Houston Stackhouse on volume 2 of the Arhoolie Mississippi Delta Blues "Blow My Blues Away" compilation.  The two volumes collect recordings made by George Mitchell in 1967 & 1968.  Highly recommended!  Burnside's wiki is an interesting read and offers some excellent links to interviews and tribute sites.

Disco Lady

Johnny Taylor performing his slow bumpin' masterwork on Soul Train (1976).

This morning I heard "Disco Lady" while making my way down the supermarket aisle. I believe it was Divine guidance.

Roots!

Moody's Mood For Love

James Moody doing his thing at the Royal Festival Hall in 1989.

Dizzy introduces Moody as Flora Purim!

Ennio Morricone

Ennio Morricone's 1972 soundrack to Un Uomo Da Rispettare (A Man To Respect).

I first heard this on the Crime and Dissonance compilation and it grabbed me by the face and left squeeze marks.  Give it a full listen and pull together your crew for one last job.

1970's Italo ill-noir.

This poster is for the disco version of Un Uomo da Rispettare released as The Master Touch.

The Hamburg waterfront looks like nice place for a picnic with your crew.

The Master, a man to respect.
