Elephants Memory/Luscious Jackson
Elephant's Memory's, "Old Man Willow" from the Midnight Cowboy soundtrack (1969).
Luscious Jackson's "Life of Leisure", from In Search of Manny (1992).
I dug this most deeply when it first reached my ears. Back in the day one of my sisters had the Midnight Cowboy soundtrack and Luscious Jackson's "Old Man Willow" keyboard sample was instantly familiar. Spooky, forboding psychedelia.

Gene Clark
The Byrds!!!
Live in 1965 performing Feel A Whole Lot Better/Turn! Turn! Turn! The Mike Nesmith song from the previous post prompted a search for some Gene Clark. This is for my foolish friend who likes to say that The Byrds were little more than a "Dylan cover band."
You Just May Be the One
The Monkees performing the 1967, Mike Nesmith penned, "You Just May Be the One."
R.I.P. Davy Jones.

This woman can sing.
Junkyard Kings
The Birthday Party playing Junkyard on Dutch televison in 1982.
The late, bass violator Tracey Pew has a special brand of psychotic bump. Also now gone is Rowland S. Howard who always reminds me of Loki as depicted in D'Aulaires' book of Norse Gods and Giants, a personal favorite since way back in elementary bumpschool. And then there is Nick Cave, towering freak releasing bugged out baritone barks. Run for your lives!
Loki transforms himself into a salmon.

Remember I Said Tomorrow
Still waiting for tomorrow.
Last night the great Swamp Dogg (Jerry Williams) brought tears to my eyes when he kicked off his Lincoln Center OutofDoors set with this classic Rat On! cut. Phony promises from self-serving politicians. Same as it ever was. Whatchaknowaboutdat Obomney?
